Itinerary Overview

Day 1: Transfer to Kasese – Foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains Begin your journey with a scenic drive to Kasese, nestled at the base of the majestic Rwenzori Mountains. Take time to rest and acclimatize, ensuring you’re prepared for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Start the Rwenzori Mountain Trek Your adventure begins with an early transfer to Nyakalengija (1646 meters) for a briefing. Meet local guides who will help carry your gear, making the ascent easier. Starting along the Mubuku River, you’ll hike through lush vegetation until reaching Nyabitaba Hut (2651 meters), where you’ll spend the night.

Day 3: Hike to John Matte Hut Continue your journey through a scenic forested path, crossing the Mubuku River via a bridge. Enjoy views of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke as you ascend towards John Matte Hut (3505 meters), your overnight stop.

Day 4: Trek to Bujuku Hut After an early breakfast, embark on a hike through giant lobelia forests and alpine vegetation, reaching the stunning Lake Bujuku (3962 meters) before continuing to Bujuku Hut for your overnight stay.

Day 5: Ascend to Elena Hut Today, you’ll tackle the ascent towards Mount Victoria and Mount Speke, passing through surreal alpine landscapes adorned with Giant Groundsels and Lobelias. Your day ends at Elena Hut (4541 meters), where you’ll rest for the night.

Day 6: Final Ascent to Margherita Peak This is the ultimate test as you ascend to the highest peak of the Rwenzori Mountains, Margherita Peak (5109 meters). Begin the journey around 1 am to ensure you reach the summit before descending to Lake Kitandara for the night.

Day 9: Return to Kasese Enjoy your final breakfast in the mountains before descending to Nyakalengija. Your guide will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Kasese for a well-earned rest.
